Got my new seat to save my rear end, but I can't get the bolts in. I understand from other posts that it will fit better after being on a while. Should I go with longer bolts (1/4 or 1/2 inch longer) or should I just keep fighting it. I'm sure I can get them snugged up.
Any helpful hints?

Not sure on the VLX but on the 1100's we just use the rear bolt. Are you sure that you have the correct seat?

I've got the right seat. 2 rear bolts (on sides). The seat brackets come about 1/4-1/2 inch from the mounting brackets. The bolts are really short and hard to threat (the nut is welded to the far side of the bracket).

I don't see an issue with going to longer bolts for a while.

I do hate the way the seats are installed on VLXs. The small allen bolts are so hard to get to.

Do you have saddlebags on the VLX that lay over the rear fender? If you do that's why your having trouble. Try getting some to ist on the seat while you try to bolt it down.
