vt1100 clutch replacement

has any one with a 1987 to 1996 vt 1100 ever relaced thier own clutch. i need to know it i realy need the special tool ( lock nut wrench) 07916-4220000 to remove the 25 mm nut that holds the clutch assembly on the shaft! or if i can use a metric socket. thanks for all replies!!!!!!!!

Yours has the hydraulic so I'm not sure about that, but! when replacing the clutch pack on a standard cable type you only have to remove the pressure plate, not the center part (we used to call that part the clutch boss).
