Hi Folks. I need to replace the fuel tank on my bike. The bike is a 1986 VT1100C Shadow but there are two fuel tank types available:

TANK SET, FUEL *NH1* (TYPE1) (BLACK)

17530-MG8-770ZA

TANK SET, FUEL *NH1* (TYPE2) (BLACK)

17530-MG8-770ZB

Can anyone tell me the difference between these two tanks (if any besides the item numbers)?

Also, what is the difference between the VT1100C and the VT1100C AC?

Unsure of tank differences. The AC model is from California. It is modified to reduce emissions. Different openings in carbs and air flow

Parts fiche I just looked at only shows the Type 1 and it says the second one doesn't exist. I doubt you are going to be able to find a new tank. Just because it shows in a parts fiche doesn't mean it's still available.

Ronayers.com shows it available for $400. Might be cheaper to buy another bike to get the tank.

Art has a good point. If you can find something like this Craigslist Ad with a good tank you'll have endless parts or stuff to sell. It's a win-win.

Hmmm. I know that area. Cost me about $300 to get out there and back with my truck and trailer excluding whatever it would cost to visit all the relatives I'd have to see or never be forgiven. Still almost worth it. The cost I couldn't afford is inconveniencing my wife then explaining why we need a third bike in the garage.

I was able to find a new tank and ordered it through PartsHouse.com The tank doesn't have the orginal "Shadow" logo on it; it says "Honda" but I don't care; I'd just as soon have no logo at all. Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions. I really appreciate it.
