Just started riding in the great white North, still a bit chilly but it doesn't get dark till about midnight (and I just installed LED underlighting-damnit). One veteran warned me about the battery, as the speed limit is 45 km/h and it only takes 10-15 mins to go across town but six hours to reach another town, he informed me that bike batteries routinely go flat. It's not a bugger yet, I keep mine on a tender as soon as i get home-but my batteries the original 2010 battery and has been treated like a baby.
Any one else experienced this?

You should be able to ride all day long and if the charging system is working properly it will keep the battery charged unless you have it loaded down with electrical items that excede the capacity of the charging system. I change bateries every 5 years even if they are working fine just as a pecaution.

you should be fine, I had a bunch of acc on my little vlx. but at least 1x per week keep the bike running by riding for a longer period of time...say atleast 30+ min. 2010 battery, that's a dream, for me it seems like every 2 years if I am in extreme heat or extreme cold.

Unless you put about 1,000 LED's on your bike I wouldn't worry about it. An LED only uses a few milliamps of current.
No, not a 1000 led's, but now that you mention it I could do that and use the bike instead of a tree next Christmas:p

30 min...That would either be laps around town or take me to the highway to nowhere.
Wasn't hard to keep the battery that long, in the riding season if a couple days between rides-on the tender. In the winter at -40/-50C on the tender or in the house.

I'm pretty sure 1000 LED's will use less amps than a regular headlight, slightly brighter lol, would love to see that down the interstate :D
No headlights, just a couple of strip LEDS from wally mart. Two under rear fender, one on each side of gas tank and one under front fender. Just enough to highlight the black on black on black paint scheme.
