I've posted about this before but now it's really starting to bug me and I think I would like to take it apart and fix it now. I have always had a very small slight leak of oil coming from the right side crankcase. It appears to come out around the top of the "clutch lifter arm". I've looked at the service manual and on page 8.4 it describes the "lifter arm" and mentions a "dust" seal but does not mention any kind of oil seal. Am I to assume the dust seal IS what holds the oil in?

Also, if I do this and remove the right side cover is there anything else I should look for/do while it is off?

This is on my 2002 VT600 VLX deluxe

Hey, tbfoto! My spirit calls for an oil seal in that position. That's got to be what you have on the vlx as well. Maybe just referred to in your manual as a "dust seal"? I'd order one up from your favorite parts supplier and change it out. That seal sees a lot of action and being 13yrs old could be drying out some too. As for anything else to do in there, other than a general looking over, not much to do. Unless you've had clutch problems. edit: And don't forget the new cover gasket!;)

Thank you for that link. That is what I needed.
Looks like I'll need to remove the bearings as well when I do this. I wonder if they will come off ok or if I should buy them too and have on hand just in case? Small needle bearings....I'm betting they wont come off very well. Hmmm.
The one thing I don't want to do is tear it all apart then have to sit around waiting on parts.
