This has been done to death I know but I am due another tire, last one lasted 6 months.... one before a year

I trying to get a gauge on what the expected miles on some tires are.... I am hoping I can find someone that have run the ME880 or commander II and the Perrelli Night dragon or MT66 to get there miles on each.

Its not a lot of use posting miles unless you have used both as I know some people get way more miles than I do

I liked the commander II got good miles at around 12K (I am reasonably hard on tires) but its wasn't super sure footed in the wet with a cold tire

ME880 great traction but I am going to be lucky to get 6K on it, higher pressure is supposed to up the K's and half the life of the tire has been at 40psi... but I have chopped it out pretty fast

I have dropped my profile by changing to a 180/70 15 to gear the bike down to suit the roads I ride and like it but it limits the availability of tires here, I would ty the ME888 but cant get one that size, I can go back to the ME880 but would like it to last longer, Commander II is not imported by Michelin in that size (I have found some who an get it though) but I also woud like to try Perelli if they get OK miles and go Ok in the wet (cheaper too)

Leathel. I have always thought wear verses traction is like walking a tight rope, you never know what side you will fall off.

I also believe tire balance is critical to a tires mileage. Over thousands of miles the constant miniscule stresses from increasing and decreasing pressure the tire places on the road surface causes more wear.

Here in the states Goodyear uses different compounds for NASCAR races based on the different surfaces at the tracks. They do the best they can but it still comes down too a flip of a coin.

so you get a little more on pirelli than commander II? It was 12,500 on commander II wasn't it?

You are running the MT66 Pirelli aren't you. good in the wet, better than the commander II in the wet?

I do like the ME880 in wet...... but is it worth it, I guess I can go a little easy on the commander II while the tire is cold in the wet for twice the miles so eventually half the cost

The 880 might last longer if ridden at the higher pressure from the start?

I hate spending money but tires can't be avoided if I want to keep clocking up K's :p

Yes, that`s the mileage I got...
I had a rear Commander 2 that was out of round, That, PLUS it slipped under braking a couple times too...
I used balancing beads in it trying to rectify the hop it had from being out of round...
I don`t really like using balancing inside the tube on mine...

I keep saying "Pirelli is my ""Drug of Choice"""

I finished off a set of Shinko Tour master in short order...
I installed these used, off my Magna, to the ACE, It didn`t take long to finish off the tread wear of the rear...MAYBE 2000 miles on a GOOD Tread Tire...
The front still has good tread...

Can I ask what tire only lasted 6 months and how many miles that was?

Sent from Motorcycle.com Free App

ME880, the first 2000 ks the pressure was 32 psi, when I mentioned to the metzler agent it was wearing fast he said to pump the pressure to at least 40 to get better miles. Its done a little over 5000 I think, maybe less (need to check notes) and if I stretch it it might last to 6000

I hardly ride main roads so mostly tight back roads and the surface they use is not smooth so is hard on tires, I don't go easy on the tires so I don't expect to get what some get out of there tires but changing twice year is hard on the pocket!

A mate ran with Shinko 777 tires for a bit but they didn't last well, and he got a lot more than me on his commander II.... so the shinko would be lucky to get 4K with me

I have the Pirelli MT66 on my Aero 750 and love them! Right now, I have 31,250 miles on my bike and the tires still look fantastic!

2007 Honda Shadow Aero 750
Original OEM tires - Bridgestone G701/G702 pair
Mileage at change - 16,266 :D

Stupidly, I bought Dunlop (Dung Flop) D404 tires as a replacement and will NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!
Dunlop D404 front tire
Mileage at change - 25,100
Seriously? I only got 8,834 miles out of the front tire?
(The back wasn't quite as bald as the front, so I was able to just barely eeek out another 1000 out of it.)
Dunlop D404 rear tire
Mileage at change - 26,182
I was lucky I got 9,888 miles out of the rear tire!

Current tires - Pirelli MT66 pair
Current mileage: 31,250
Current mileage on front tire: 6,150
Current mileage on rear tire: 5,068
...and they still look like they're in mint condition!

I guess rough roads plays a significant roll in your mileage.

It probably doesn't help that I am usually pretty hard on the throttle...... and brakes at times... I love those tight roads :D

One day I will remind myself I am on a cruiser.... and you don't have to use the recommended corner speed signs in mph (marked in kph)

I have almost 25,000 on my ME880's and the rear now needs replaced. I've gone with the higher recommended pressures(38 front/42 rear) the entire time I've had them on my Sabre.
I've got 15,000 on my ME880's and they still look good, like jpr said I run the rears at 42 and the front around 38.

I got apx 17,000 out of a set of Dunlap 404s... Still had good tread on them but some dry rot from prior owner not riding and just let it sit for over a year...

To answer your question, I got 15,000 + mi. on my Pirelli with no issues in wet even riding two up. If you want to make your gearing not as tall go to 180/70 which I put one on the second time and was tickled sh**less. It don't look as massive as the 170/80 but... who cares. I also calculated wear difference between the two sizes at 500 mi.

Sorry I didn't quite comprehend all your post. Timeout for coffee. :D

sounds like the pirerrli MT66 might be worth a try, wont be any worse than the ME880 for miles and those that run it like it... and its cheaper here than the metzler

yup already running the 180/70 (and love the gearing) which is why I am limited on tire options as that size is harder to get here, was going to try the 888 but its not available

Damn, most places are out of stock of the MT66 over here, I wanted to have a tire ready and waiting..... But looks like I need to cool me heals

There are a few Night Dragon tires in stock now but I might weight untill the MT66 is in as I still have a while before I need it

what miles do the Night dragons get?, found thisvideo but it doesn't give much away

Front:
Pirelli MT66 seems to not have size 110/80-19 like the Honda manual says to use in front, but MT66 is 110/90-19 (
a taller sidewall than 110/80). Would that hurt how the bike handles in cornering or anything?

Rear:
Looks like Pirelli MT66 also doesn't have
160/80-15 like Honda manual says to use on rear, but Pirelli MT66 has a 170/80-15 instead. Would the wider tire (going from 160/80 to 170/80) have clearance problems in back?
