2000 Shadow 750 14.4k : Since ive had it this past June the bike has ocasionaly 3 or 4 times jumped out of 3rd gear under hard/fast acelaration. Im new to bikes so here it goes.... what would cause that to happen ? My initial guess 1st, i simply didnt apply enough clutch to let it change gear 2nd internal slipage ? I dont know. Why has it always only been 3rd gear if i wasnt shifting corectly. More interestingly fri i changed the oil for my first time on the bike T5 Rotella 15-40 synblend and a Bosh premium. Drove a few miles and oil light came on and it was skiping so i added another 3/8 or so of a qaurt and did the oil level check drill wound up using a turkey basetor just to make dam shure it was rite on the fill line rode it 1/2 hour and rechecked the oil level it was corect. Went for a 40 mile cruise and 3rd gear was popin out to neutral worse than before the oil change. Now i have questions 1. Could the diffrent or new oil have caused the diffrence in 3rd pop out to neuatral ( it wasnt till after the oil change that the previous owner called to tell me he had been using full syn ) 2. Is 3rd gear common doing this 3. Is it norm after changing oil for this kinda crazy stuff 4. Is the trany or 3rd gear toast ? Btw i plan on changing it back to T6 Rotela 5-40 full syn just because thats what its been using. Help.

I don't know, but if you're having shift problems with full/semi synthetic, I'd try Rotella 15w40 dino oil and see if that made a difference. I've used it my last two bike and never had any problems.

Sometimes mine would pop out of 5th, usually when i didnt click it 'up' far enough and it wasnt all the way in gear.

Not to 'argue' with post #2 above, but that is less likely than chipped gear teeth, like what would happen if you didnt use the clutch to upshift and just slammed it in gear.

Sweet Jesus. Is that a total overhaul or just replace 3rd gear due to chiped teeth. Does the trany have to be removed for this service. Can the teeth be visualy inspected by removing any pan or covers ?? Sounds very costly $$$$$

Guess i should have mentioned prior to oil change it didnt pop out all the time even under full or 3/4 throtle wen it did it just seem random vs 100% of the time like when you know for shure something is broken or busted . Dont know it that matters...

Mine's a 1998 750ACE and when it was about a year old, it popped out of gear a few times like what you described.

Oddly, in my case it was caused by a loose drive chain.
I'm not suggesting that's your problem too, but it might be worthwhile to make sure the chain is snugged up to specs.

Good Luck,
Phil

Here'e my 2 cents.
Bent shift fork, the more you ride it the worst it gets. Every time it jumps out of gear it does more damage so it will get worst until it will no longer go in gear. Very expensive, complete tear-down, split the cases repair job.
All it takes is one good hard high rev. missed shift and damage is done.
I was service manager years ago so I have seen this many times before, most of the time on racing bikes.

So why only 3rd gear ? Also short of a tear down is there a way to check this to make shure.

2000 Shadow 750 Basically the same as my 9814.4k : Since ive had it this past June the bike has ocasionaly 3 or 4 times jumped out of 3rd gear under hard/fast acelaration. My "fumble foot sometimes causes this too Im new to bikes so here it goes.... what would cause that to happen ? My initial guess 1st, i simply didnt apply enough clutch to let it change gear 2nd internal slipage ? I dont know. Why has it always only been 3rd gear if i wasnt shifting corectly. Now i have questions 1. Could the diffrent or new oil have caused the diffrence in 3rd pop out to neuatral This is NOT neutral! This is between gears, some call this "False Neutral or second neutral, but it is really between gears > This CAN cause damage< ( it wasnt till after the oil change that the previous owner called to tell me he had been using full syn ) 2. Is 3rd gear common doing this 3. Is it norm after changing oil for this kinda crazy stuff 4. Is the trany or 3rd gear toast ? IF this continues on a regular basis, then my guess is that DAMAGE has been done(?)Btw i plan on changing it back to T6 Rotela 5-40 full syn just because thats what its been using. Help.
Hmm, in the future, Try to be "on the money" with PROPER shifting into 3rd...

Hopefully you`re OK (?)
BUT???
If it keeps jumping outta gear, you DO have problems
