I have had 3 wrecks back when I was younger, always limped away from them. But I would have to say the scariest moment was coming home from work. Just got onto I 5. Was passing a semi and as I was, it blew a recap. I remember tire tread circling all around me. I didn't get hit by any of it, but some where in that mess it did take out my speedo. After that I didn't ride much on the freeways. That was back in 2000.
Sold the bike a couple of years later and didn't ride again until last year. To this day, I still hate passing semis.

My scariest moment was driving to work late at night when I use to work 3rd shift.

I was driving northbound on a four lane, divided highway.
A pickup truck approached from a side road on the right and should've stopped at the stop sign to give me the right-of-way.
He didn't.

He slowed down and then came on across to the center of the highway to cross over to the southbound side.
He pulled straight out in front of me.
Classic scenario we hear about all the time where they just don't see the bike.
I was running about 60mph when this happened.
I clamped down on my clutch and brake levers then stood on my rear brake.
The bike started to slide and the back end started fishtailing.
I let off the brakes and then reapplied them and eased it in to the stop.

I came within a few feet of hitting him broadside in the driver's door.
SCARED THE SH!T OUT OF ME!

When I got to work, co-workers were sitting outside having a smoke.
They said I looked like I had seen a ghost.

Why do we turn white when we get scared like that?

Blood moves to organs associated with "fight or flight" muscles and organs, seems our face doesn't have much to offer in a life saving situation hehe, glad you're ok!

Rider error for me on an unfamiliar country lane. Way to fast approaching a right hander, could've ended up in the bushes on the left but luckily slowed down in time and leaned like a MOTO GP rider to my right to make it around. Have never done that since!

Riding on the interstate, three bikes in a staggered formation, none of us too horribly close to each other. I was in the middle on the left side of the right hand lane. The guy in the VTX 1800 in the front on the right side had had some rear brake slave cylinder issues. The issue decided to act up going about 75 with us in the group. I remember watching the road straight ahead and suddenly hearing a very loud screech and he was slowing down quickly. He started moving over in front of me. I glanced real quick to the left lane, no cars around. I moved over, saw the guy in the rear on the 1100 in the right of the lane slam on his brakes. We were about parallel now, and I see his rear wheel lock up and he a few puffs of white come up. No injuries, no wrecks, just extremely terrifying. The short mental clip of the 1100's rear wheel suddenly stopping accompanied by smoke will probably stick with me forever.

My worst pucker moment was when I was following a cage going down a very steep hill at approx. 55 mph. The cage decides to slam on the brakes and stops dead in the left lane to make an illegal U-turn.
With no where to go, I grabbed the clutch and brakes but my rear brake was a little out of adjustment. I did a front wheel lockup , front wheelie and managed to bring the bike to a stop inches from rear ending the cage. I thought I had plenty of room and would have if the rear brake was adjusted.

Lesson learned, check and adjust rear brake more often so it's there when I really need it.
Took me a few miles to regain my composure.

While on the interstate in WV last summer I hit a micro-burst with near zero visibility and lots of wind. Went to change to the slow lane and the front tire slipped and back tire fishtailed...a seat sucking moment for sure. Basically a tar-snake under water tried to take a bit out of my travels unsuccessfully.

doing about 55 up a dirt road to blow off steam and a german shepherd charges out...yikes! Luckily, I hit him in the neck and only compressed the forks on impact. I looked back and he was lying in the road with his tongue sticking out.

Believe it or not, the sheriff ticketed me for unregistered vehicle. He wanted to add leaving the scene, but I protested and he agreed the dog was a notorious menace.

The experience told me that I would indeed, have a split second for some last thoughts before impact...(something I always wondered about).

Ride safe!

I broadsided a '72 satellite sebring once. The kid had just got his license and ran a stop sign. I was doing about 45 and didn't have time to stop. Ran smack into his rear quarter panel. I went over the trunk and rolled and skid on the pavement for a ways. Nothing broke, just some major road rash and bruises. I'd only had the bike for a couple of days! It was a '72 CB750-four. Key word there is "was". His parents wanted to sue me cuz he had told them a lie about the accident. We got it cleared up though.

Traveling on the interstate in the right lane. Came up on a couple of slower cagers. Moved over to the left lane to pass. The last cager decided to pass just as I was beside him. I was forced into the grass median, I went down and slid about 150 feet before I came to a stop. Thank God for leathers and a helmet. Bike was totaled, I was just sore with a lot of bruises.

A turkey took flight right at the road's edge. I had to duck under it as I sped by at 60mph. Scared the crap out of me. Those things are HUGE!

1. Brand new unopened 4 lane highway was being built between Ottawa and Montreal. Paving was completed. Cold out but snow had melted and road was clear. Road was beautiful flat, and straight. No traffic so no speed limit. The problem happened as we went under the first overpass. The snow had built up on the overpass, melted, dripped down on the road and then refroze in the shade of the overpass. Flat, and smooth as glass. BSA hit the ice at about 80mph. A few scrapes.

2. a 4x4 fence post fell off a truck on the highway. My Shadow was launched what seemed like 6 ft. up, bike and me OK.

Three years ago running with four other guys heading back from the Run-For-The-Wall, the front guy kicked up a road gator just outside of Lincoln NE. It bounced off the guys shield in front of me and hit me dead on knocking me off the bike at about 70 mph. Leathers and helmet got trashed, I got the crap beat out of me and my bike got totaled. Lay there a while before I even contemplated getting up. Hurt like all get out. Rode with my buddy to the nearest hospital to get checked out while the other guys called to get the bike taken care of. After I got released from the ER we went in to town and bought another bike to finish the rest of the trip home. Trust me when I say parts of the ride afterwards weren't too enjoyable. Going in to Wyoming someone had a brilliant idea to cut down through Colorado to save time. Ended up on some road on stilts way the heck above a river. Beautiful. Somehow got on a road called the Rocky Mountain Parkway. Way the heck up there. Desolate. Beautiful. Started to drizzle, bike went out from under me on a hairpin curve just as I was going in to it. Didn't get too hurt but put racing stripes on the new, one day old bike. Made it down the hill to a little town called Granby. Tried draining the local tavern of all the PBR and Jameson's they had. Was about ready to call a taxi for the last thousand miles home.
Next day after a good breakfast and the hangover mellowed a bit, we saddled up for what turned out to be an un-eventful rest of the trip to San Diego.

I`ve had animals startle me by taking my direct line of travel...
But I`ve gotta say the most excited I got was on my way to TN , I borrowed the nephews Bike for the trip to pick up a pick up truck...
Tooling along in my lane, picked out my line for an upcoming curve when all of a sudden a Wal Mart Truck had my line, on my side of the road...
I saw the white line disappear under the Bike leaving only inches of pavement...
Old riding habits came back FAST, I countersteered and stayed on the 6 inches of pavement between the white line and edge of pavement...
This is the first time back on a bike in over twenty years of not riding...
I love my Bike,
Dennis

Sounds like ome really close calls. Glad you all are ok. About a month ago had some idiot come out of a lot, doing 55 I saw him, slowed down a bit to see what he would do, yep, came right out with stopping, on the brakes hard but no lock up, started going to the side of the road as it looked like I may not stop in time, I dont know if he saw me or not, but he did speed up, which may be what kept me from hitting him.

I've had a few but the one I can remember was in 2008 I JUST pick up a brand new Victory Jackpot. I was leaving a restaurant after meeting some friends for dinner and on my way home I got cut off by a F****** mini van with some fat ******* driver. I dumped the bike exhaust side but luckily there was minimal damage. Of course the guy drove off...BUT I found where he parked his car....he needs new side mirrors.

Out of all the years I've ridden my scariest moment came a couple of years ago. I was traveling along on the Rebel around 60 mph and suddenly a deer came out of a corn field and was running at full speed and ran into the road. She came within 3' of me before she turned and ran back into the corn. How she managed to stop on asphalt and turn that fast I'll never know.

I'm guessing she was bedded down and a coyote bumped her up, I thought for sure I was going to bite the big one but apparently my guardian angel was watching over me that afternoon. It was close...

Of course there was the time we were headed down I-65 to Mammoth Cave and while passing a car their front tire blew out. A piece of the tire hit my helmet and left a black mark on it...
