Yeah...I'm sure someone will ride. I'm riding to work tomorrow and Friday. Sunny and a high of 70 !

It's been abnormally cold down here and now it's gonna be abnormally warm. About time.

Go slow.
Stay close to home if possible.
Cancel those blinkers after turn.
Forget the cage behind you.
They can pass, or screw-off.
Have fun, it is the biggest point anyway.
Or cruise to Oregon.
45' is Ok here.
Keep us posted.

As I mentioned in chat to you. If you can't get someone to ride with you, have someone follow you in a car if that makes you feel better.

Find some quiet roads or some empty parking lots and practice!

Let us know how it goes for you.

You have a motorcycle club represented in your signature and you can't find someone to ride with?

What's with that?

Just read the riding tips sticky, take it easy, and ride.

That, Lisa, is excellent advice. It provides two things -- a degree of comfort knowing that someone is along with you; and someone to run interference for you, either by going in front or trailing you.

Note: we had a thread on that issue -- whether a companion in a car should lead or follow -- and I can't recall the outcome of that. For what it's worth, my opinion is following is better. If the car is leading the motorcycle, there's always the chance another car will not see the trailing motorcycle and attempt to dart out right behind the lead car. Plus, by having the car follow, the new rider doesn't have to dedicate energy trying to keep up, or ride beyond their ability if the car driver goes a bit faster than they should.

I remember that thread. I think it was one I started. I was asking about a long ride I was going to take and if my hubby in the car would be better off in front or behind me.

I never did take that ride but from a few shorter rides I've been on with him nearby in the car I can say I am much better with him behind me. That way I can set the pace of the ride and I feel I have a bit of a buffer from aggressive drivers.

I don't let it give me a false sense of security though.
I don't ease up on being aware because he is there, but I do feel a bit of a comfort knowing he is if something was to happen.

Where in No Virginia are you located? There gots to be someone there thats riding. Where's Chuck and Merry when ya need them.

My bike is scheduled into the shop for tire replacement Saturday and I won't get it back until Monday afternoon. Besides that my wife and I are supposed to go to the RV show this weekend in Timonium. Lisa has the best idea with the car escort if you can't find anybody.

The condtiion right now are the $hits for learning how to ride, no shoulders due to ice and snow piles, sand and salt and wet salt spray everywhere, piles of snow where you least expect it. Temps in the low 40's.

I am unwilling to put a newbie in danger because they lack the current knowledge or common sense to stay off the roads until the situation is less than dangerous for their skill level.

Where you gonna go when something happens? No shoulder to go onto because they are all filled with snow, ice or mud.

Let's see there is the:
- bail to shoulder because the petcock wasn't turned on,
- bail to shoulder because they were not quick enough on the brakes,
- push to shoulder because the clutch hand has become dis-associated with the throttle hand and the traffic light on the incline just changed,
- bail to shoulder because the salt spray is so thick they can no longer see the lines on the road.
- bail to shoulder to check shorts because they didn't see the semi-truck passing at 40mph above their current speed....etc, etc.

Going out this weekend would be kind of like gang-raping a virgin because they want to learn about sex.
