Changed the final drive oil in the Phantom today. Looking at the factory service manual procedure it states to lift the rear wheel off the ground and turn the wheel while draining the oil. Then fill with oil with the bike on the side stand.
What I am pondering are they wanting the bike lifted in a vertical orientation or with the bike on the side stand lift the bike so that it stays on the side stand and the front tire to drain the oil?
I’m not making a mountain out of a mole hill, it is just not clear. Well I drained the oil on the side stand, then lifted the bike in a vertical orientation and spun the wheel some. No more oil came out. Put the bike back on the floor and side stand and several more drops came out. I feel confident that I got as much oil out of the final drive as can be without drastic measures.
I won’t be lifting the bike next time unless someone makes a good argument to do so.
