So, I pulled up at a light this morning and beside me was one of those tiny Smart cars. First thought across my mind (as I sit on my bike), "Man, I'd never ride or drive in one of those dangerous things. You would have no chance if you were hit by a larger vehicle".

I've been looking forward to having to cut one of these (jaws of life). From what I've read, they have a good crush cage and are very survivable. Still, like a moped, I wouldn't be caught dead driving one.

(My cage ride is a VW GTI)

The premise of the Smart Car is that it is designed strictly as an urban [city] car that is easy to drive and park. They do have a solid little engine but it requires use of premium only fuel [93 octane]. They are rough ridding, and noisy [I won't say what kind of motorcycle that remind be of] The frame and body are very well designed and very ridged, however they may very crash worthy, but they are very ridged and for the occupants the 'G' forces of an impact are far from good. While it does have air conditioning, heat and windshield wipers I'll keep riding my VT700.

I saw a lot of Smart Cars in Europe long before they came over to the States. One of the reasons for the Smart Car's size is that you can nose-in park in a space not big enough to parallel park and still not have your tail sticking out into the street. Comes in real handy in the big cities in Europe were parking is at a premium.

Two people were hanging off a cliff in a tent just listening to the sounds..suddenly a Harley shattered the nights silence in the valley below..one turned to the other and said..I just don't understand how someone could choose to do something as dangerous as riding a bike

Like it or not, I would not be surprised if we soon see these little, high mpg cars in demand in the U.S.A. Or at least until we get our heads on right and drill baby drill for fossil fuel here at home. It may very possibly cause a high increase in small commuter motorcycles out of necessity. If you are employed, have to commute, and have common sense when studying current events - now might be the time to get that motorcycle you always wanted while they are available (not the dream type power house rockets). Might also be a good time to take the safety courses available and get your license to ride before everyone and their cousins get in line. Just my frame of thinking that I like to share with the good folks on this forum... food for thought huh!

I look at convertibles sorta like that but think - my AC is better than yours. And I'm having more fun, I look cooler, and I'm saving on gasoline.

BTW - my other car is a huge v8 pickup

I always get strange looks at the light when I flip open my modular and grab my coffee cup and drink out of it.

My parents owned one for about three years. They loved it and I was afforded the opportunity to drive is some. I loved driving it! It didn't feel tiny when you are behind the wheel. The little 1.0L engine is quite peppy and if you put the tranny in manual mode, it really comes to life.

My parents owned their own business and it was used as a business car. They had a full body wrap on it with graphics and logos on it. It was a head turner.

They were disappointed with the MPG though. It was no where near what the sticker said.

They got the SmarCar fever after they vacationed in Amsterdam. Those little cars were everywhere over there. The European models are shorter than the US versions though. The body lines changed slightly. But still the same car.

The ****pit is surrounded by a safety cage and as the video posted earlier shows, it can take a pretty good lick. I never felt unsafe in the car.

Its made my Mercedes and it is well made.

If you want to have some real fun, buy one and stick a Hayabusa engine in it.

LLLL, What ain`t dangerous????
Come on legislators, SAVE US!!!!!
:D

I wonder? Is driving one of these classified as Risky/Dangerous like riding a motorcycle???
Insurance has a special policy for motorcyclists, classifying us as participating in dangerous activities along with Parachutists...
Come ON legislators, pass another law,
