I hate traffic!

Rode to work again this morning, and found what a difference a 30minute later departure makes.

My entire commute is two-lane roads, and at 0730 there were a lot of people headed in the same direction I was. It was the kind of traffic where the second you get both feet back on the pegs you're right back on the clutch and brake again.

I was pleased with how I handled the bike at the low speeds, but that kind of traffic sure takes some fun out of the ride.

It takes A LOT of the fun out of riding. But it is also a good chance to practice playing with your Friction Zone. You can see how slow and for how long you can go without putting your feet down by keeping the clutch pulled in part way (slipping the clutch) and keeping your revs up (A LITTLE). It really helps with your balance on the bike... :D

Agreed MissAce! I'm still not comfortable wit the start/stop in a line of cars at a 4way stop sign. I've been trying to keep my left foot down and cover the back brake with the right, but I wobble....

A friend of mine at work keeps both feet down and uses the front brake. I'm going to try that on the way home this afternoon and see if it feels better. it's not that I'm worried about falling over, I just want to be in better conrol.

I've heard such horror stories about the traffic in GA. I'm 1 mile from work and most days I just walk to work. (pouring salt in your wound.) I would ride the bike but I fear that I'll take a detour and wind up missing a day of work. 8)

Betcha won't leave 30 minutes late again.
LOL...you're right, I won't! :)

OH, something else cool! The guy I bought the bike from was telling me some of the things that are on the road test, should I decide to try for my full license before I take the class. One of them one was coming to a complete stop and starting again with both feet remaining on the pegs. At the time I thought, s*it, I'll NEVER be able to do that. Did it this morning. :D

Be aware that some will use this against you.
People have gotten tickets for not putting their feet down.

Yeppers, had a motopoliceman warn me about not putting a foot down at a stop sign. Said as far as they are concerned it's a rolling stop not a full stop.
Oh I'll ALWAYS put at least one foot down at a light. I think that maneuver is just something they want you to do on the road test to show that you can balance the bike.

JMHO, I think "cagers" should have to open their door and put their foot down also.... Here they just plow through a red light in a 35MPH zone at about 60MPH so they don't have to stop.

I don't like the traffic either but for different reasons. It's hot down here and for some reason the lights in south Florida take forever.

Now I'm wearing Jeans, Boots, a Denim Jacket and Leather Vest as well as my helmet and gloves. Sitting above a rather large air cooled engine while waiting for the traffic lights and the stop and go traffic gets a touch on the warm side. (I have been known to sweat right through the denim jacket and the leather vest.)

That is also the reason why I have been thinking about slimming down the riding gear. I don't want to lose the protection but I don't care for a case of Heat Stroke.

I leave home at 5:30am each day. The traffic is very minimal and I can cruise at my own speed. The air is fresh and i'm relaxed when i get to work. It's 25km to the office from my place. The commute home is similarly relaxed.

I find if I don't get out before 5:45am though, there is a huge difference in traffic volume.

Trying to go to work at 7am is a nightmare of stop and go traffic in both directions. I'm glad I have a choice (pick my own office hours).

Check into one of those mesh jackets. They do make it better.
