The petcock is basically a standpipe. The end of the standpipe is your normal quantity, turn the valve and the fuel feeds from the bottom instead for reserve.

 

Thxs for the explanation! I guess ill just keep swapping positions on the valve until I figure out which is reserve and which is regular.

 

you might be running on reserve and be too low to run in the on position

 

If reserve isn't working with a brand new petcock, maybe you got a bad one with flash inside the casting blocking that passage.

Or, the seal at the bottom of the in-tank filter is blocking the reserve intake.

Here's a look at what is inside. If yours is assembled with screws, you can take it apart and investigate.
