Such a pleasant day

Now what more could I ask for on a day off. Two great rides, a bit of drama and even some skin. I'm loving life.

This morning the wife and I decided we just had to visit the beach. We decided to do it in style. We grabbed our bathing suits then geared up. I strapped the day pack to the Sissy Bar and fired up the Beast.

It was absolutely beautiful, 75° with a forecast temp of 85°. A bit breezy but that's Florida.

Twenty miles down the road we pulled into the State park. (John D. Macarthur Park for those who are interested.) We paid the entrance fee and headed for the parking lots.

Parking the bike in the shade of several Palms we climbed off and peeled off our leathers. Under mine was just me, under my wifes leather she was wearing her Bikini Top. That got a couple of people looking. When my wife skinned out of her jeans the people were watching even more intently. I just smiled. Stashing our jeans in the cargo box and locking the helmets to the bike we grabbed the pack and headed for the beach.

When we hit the beach I was happy to see it was covered with people. Lots of people in their bathing suits. Many acres of skin covered with tanning oils. We spread our blanket amid the throng and sat there looking around as I noted the warning flags. Just a yellow flag today which was good, albeit a bit surprising with the four foot waves. Most people were just playing in the surf.

After a bit I dug into the day pack and pulled out my mask and fins. One of the reasons I like this beach is the rock reef about 100 yards offshore. I wandered down to the surfline and pulled on my fins and mask as I watched the water. Before long I spotted what I was looking for, a Rip. By this time I was being watched by more than a couple of people as well as the Life Guards. Wading into the water I shouldered through the breakers and dove into the rip letting it carry me out to where I wanted to be.

I spent more than a little time out there diving on the reef. The waves made life interesting but the water was nice and clear. I played with a couple of large Lobster and chased more than a couple of fish. Hell I even found a gold chain. Finally though I started getting tired of this and decided it was time to head in to shore.

I started swimming in and caught a few waves. AS I reached the crest of one wave I saw a sight I didn't want to see. A young woman was caught in a Rip and was fighting against it. She was panicking and having a hard time of it. I tread water for a minute watching her and watching the water as well. I could see she would be carried not far from me so I moved. It wasn't hard to catch her and drag her out of the current. It was much harder getting her calmed down. When I finally did get her to relax I told her what was going to happen, I was going to bring her to shore but there would be a bit of excitement at the end.

I swam towards shore letting Mother Nature do the hard work, I kicked just hard enough to catch the waves and let them carry us in. (She had no choice in the matter, I had her in the classic rescue drag position.) Just outside of the Breakline I stopped and moved around in front of her. Now this was a risky point. I had her wrap her arms around my shoulders and lay on my back. (Such a nice feeling by the way. A nubile young thing in a thin bathing suit pressed against you.) I put the Snorkel in my mouth and timed the waves. I wanted a big one, the last in a fourset. When I saw it coming I turned towards shore and kicked like mad so I could cath the wave and body surf in. Now let me tell you right here, Body Surfing isn't easy with someone holding onto you. We made it though with no more injury than some bruised knees on my part.

Yes I did take some pictures today but I don't think they are suitable for this site. We're talking I took pictures of the part that always makes me shake my head on our State Beaches. Neither Thongs nor Nudity are allowed yet they don't bat an eye to the young and in some cases not so young women wearing white T-Shirts with nothing beneath them. We're talking an almost endless Wet T-Shirt Contest. (I loved it by the way.)

The ride home was in fairly heavy traffic. We're talking I'm juking and jiving to keep from getting run over but I had a blast. The bike with all four cylinders firing had more than enough power to get us out of trouble. 20 miles of riding a bike that looks like a cruiser but thinks it's a sportbike. Talk about fun.

I got caught in a rip once out on Hutchinson Island and thankfully got my butt back to shore OK.

Never swim against a rip, swim on an angle instead. That's how I made it back to shore. I was astounded just how quick that rip took me out. I wasn't that far in the water either.

Maggie grew up swimming in the Pacific in Australia and has seen some pretty amazing rips there. The water there gets real rough and they have some amazing waves.

I got chased out of the water while swimming out on Hutchinson island by a shark, stung by a jelly fish and of course got the hell knocked out of me body surfing ( not to mention the rip I encountered ). I gave up swimming in the ocean. I just sight see instead. Much safer.

The first time I was caught by a Rip it scared the Pee out of me. Thankfully I was a strong swimmer and I quickly realised what was happening. I didn't fight it and came out of it okay.

Then I started diving, both free and Scuba. Most of the areas we dove on were a ways off shore and at that time all of my diving was shore diving. Now I don't know about anyone else but swimming on the surface in full cold water rig is not my idea of fun. Then I got caught by a rip and carried right out to where I wanted to dive. Cool enough. I started looking for them and letting Mamma Nature do the work for me.

AS for the Sharks and Jelly Fish. Well I've seen them and been seen by them. I respect them and haven't had any problems so far. Besides there are worse things in our waters. (There's a reason I refuse to dive off a crowded public beach even if it is allowed. )

The sightseeing is a good enough reason to visit some of the beaches around here, you just have to choose your times right.
