Trouble making Oxford disc lock fit

Along with my new bike purchase, I also got a 14mm Oxford Boss Alarm, disc lock.

But I must be stupid, cause I couldn't get it to fit anyway except like on the picture - where it just attaches through the spokes. I guess it's as good as installing it any other way, cause thieves would either steal the more expensive bike next to mine, or just lift mine into a van and it's gone. Although, this one does have an alarm in it, so if not unlocked within 5 seconds after being moved, it will become noisy - that part works no matter if it's attached to the spokes or through a hole in the brake disc.

The problem with the fit is that it's impossible to get it through the big disc holes as you would need to guide it through the spokes from the other side first, and that just doesn't fit. At least I couldn't get it to fit.

Thoughts?

I would if I could pull money from the trees. I'm out $125 on this alarm/lock already. Of course I could sell it, but would never get all my money back.

Had no idea it would be cumbersome to fit, otherwise I would have tried to try it on before I bought it.

Purchased it in a brick store, so I have no legal right to demand a refund. Of course I could maybe strike a deal with them, but I would probably get more by selling it online to somebody else.

Question is, would a disc lock & alarm that attaches to the disc brakes, be a much safer (anti theft prevention) device, than how I'm currently using it?

With what you have they could cut a couple of spokes and remove it. With a disc lock they would be there for a while cutting the disc. They could still pick the front of the bike and go though.
The xenia disk lock has an alarm and starts at about $60.00 on Amazon.
