I purchased my '96 Shadow Spirit VT1100c in '98 with 2,000 miles on the clock. I've had the pleasure of riding it 58,000 miles all over the northeast. In the interim I wrecked it 10 years ago, bought it back from the insurance company, chopped it & continued to have fun on this great & reliable bike.
Unfortunately, the dreaded "popping out of 3rd gear" gremlin reared its ugly head a few weeks ago. I've opted not to rebuild the original engine & have located a 1996 vt1100c replacement with 32,000 miles on it.
I plan to rebuild the carburetors, air cut off valves (it backfires a lot) thermostat & rebuild the water pump. A new pump is expensive so I would like to rebuild the one on my engine & swap since I regularly changed the coolant & don't know the history of the new (?) one. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good rebuild kit or has done this repair. I see lots of Chinese rebuild kit on the internet but would like to use the best quality since I don't want to have to pull the engine again due to poor quality parts and leaks.
My question to all is any recommendations anyone has relating to this swap. All suggestions would be appreciated, and I thank you in advance.
