In one of my recent threads both Strelnikov and Bethany1972 mentioned that they were in the process of reading the same book about a motorcycling adventure. So that got me wondering what other good books might be out there? With cold winter days ahead it might be nice to read a good book since I won't be riding for about 5 months.
So do you have a motorcycling adventure related book that you would recommend?

I know this is an online story but worth reading now they are done. Three guys on motorcycles ride from NJ. to Ca. and back in 33 days this year from 8/1/15 - 9/23/15. http://www.6onasphalt.com/.I liked the story because I own one of the bikes similar to one in story, a

I just finished a set of 3 books about a motorcycle guy who was part of an outlaw MC, and got saved in prison, and became the 'Outlaw Preacher'. The series by John Andrews talks a little about the MC lifestyle, but all were really well written. The 3 books are titled, 'The Outlaw Preacher', 'The Outlaw Preacher-The Miracle', and 'The Outlaw Preacher-Redemption'. Got them off Kindle, and even got my wife to read them, which she really enjoyed, too.

I have subscribed to a couple websites which send me emails every day with cheap or FREE e-books, which you can get from different sources. Some are only from Amazon, and others are available also from Kobo, Nook, etc. OHFB.com is probably the best I've dealt with so far. They have DOZENS of e-books for FREE, EVERY day! You can also select which genre of books you want to be notified about. BookBub.com, ManyBooks.com, and eBookDaily.com are other ones that are also good. Sometimes I will get a book for Free from one email, and it will then be offered the next day or week from one of the other sites, and sometimes I will only see it for Free on ONE of these sites/emails, but the others will have it for a cheap price. This is the reason I use ALL of them, because I have been able to gradually over time get entire series of books, sometimes from some rather 'big name' authors, ALL for Free! I highly recommend this method for getting your reading fix as cheaply as possible.

I have to second the recommendation of Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road by Neil Peart. He took off on multi country bike tour after the tragic loss of his daughter and wife. Parts of the book get a bit maudlin, as one would expect, but he also does an excellent job of putting in to words the thoughts that go through ones mind as you ride across large expanses of the country on two wheels. He describes places he's been and people he met on the road as only someone who don't thousands of miles at a stretch can do. Granted, the book resounded with me for a number of reasons: I have always went on extended bike rides after coming home from deployments for therapeutic reasons and I've always been a big RUSH fan and a Neil Peart fan.

As a disclaimer, I read "Zen, and the art of motorcycle maintenance" some years back and I felt it was pompous trash. Way too much zen, little to no motorcycle maintenance.

ok, I know quoting myself is kind of weird.... but.... speaking of road trips and all, I just found my best bud and HSN member squidchief is on his way back. Was just given instructions to set up a road trip. Kind of a sketchy time of the year so we'll probably be cruising through Arizona and New Mexico. Might be interesting to dig up Neil Pearts book and try to recreate that part of his epic trip.

I should have been keeping a list, but since Neil Peartvis also an avid reader, he drops lots of book names within Ghost Rider. So if you start there, and make a list whilst reading, you may have plenty to keep you busy for the winter. I always seem to need a recommendation to get started on a new book, as I have trouble just picking one off the shelf of thousands. Maybe we should do a Honda Shadow Forum book exchange?

Courtesy of the Gutenberg Project, check out "Across America by Motorcycle". You want to read this ebook even if it is online. This guy was fresh from the trenches of WW1 and decided to explore America on a Henderson in 1919. Here is a link.

If you go to ADV, one Ride Report NOT to be missed is:

Virginia to Alaska and back on an '86 Yamaha Radian | Adventure Rider

Someday it will be re-written into a book. Personally, I think it would be a incredible movie. It's not finished yet, either.
