So I'm pretty new to bikes in general. I'd like to do this myself. Anyone out there know how hard or long of a project this would be for a first timer?

It's quite a long job, you might need to stop halfway through to order spare parts, you may have to drill blanks out..and you should not attempt it without a service manual...

It's not easy to remove the carbs..it's even harder to replace them and you don't really want to do it twice because you forgot something..

Also you might want to replace the fuel filter before you start so that you don't have to do it all again next month.

I just finished doing it for the first time. If you're careful and meticulous it isn't hard. Keep track of your parts and, as mentioned above, a manual is awesome. There are things that aren't obvious at first glance that you need to watch for. Overall I had fun and learned a LOT.

edit: *isn't* hard. Oops.

I just did this myself, and my bike still runs!!! :p It was a real sunovabich to get the carbs off from the intakes. and, well, I don't really have any advice except to make sure the band screws are loose and use a lot of force. Other than that, it was easy.

Don't separate the carbs. and do one side at a time, so things don't get mixed up.

Good luck!
