I'm curious to see who has gone out and bought specific "motorcycle" boots to ride with. I have a pair of steel toe work boots but they don't feel quite right to shift with. I've seen that there are a specific "motorcycle" boot on the market. Who has these and what are they like? What is the point over any other generic boot? Also do you guys prefer them over a regular work boot/ shoe? Thanks for any input.

I wear them most of the time. Reason: they come up high enough on my shins that I get protection from bugs, stones and wind. Not many other types of boots are that high.

Bought some motorcycle boots from a Harley store when I was doing my MSF course. I wore boots for 9 years in the Navy and I wear my riding boots about every day since I am in the saddle just about every day. Just love the comfort I get from a solid pair of boots.

In the early days a lot or riders were admitted to hospital with broken ankles, they had to have their boot cut off to get to the damage, so people started to wear long leather boots to help prevent broken ankles, this cut down on the number of broken bones and abrasions, but when bones were broken they still had to cut the boot off..The next stage was to fit a full length zip so that the boot could be removed from a swollen leg without cutting.

Steel toecaps..these are considered a no no by many paramedics because when a rider leans into a curve or corner his or her foot may slip off the footrest and the toe can get caught between the peg and the ground, this can rip the steel toecap off with the toes still inside it..

All of the above things can happen but although there are recorded cases, they are very rare.

Motorcycle specofic boots are great-while riding. Try walking in them and you'll realize why not many wear them. I wear combat boots. I wear them at work so I have them around. Work boots are also good although some say "no steel toes." Wear boots that are comfortable and cover your shins. You have work boots, if they are comfortable they offer good support on pegs and cover your shins so wear them. If that's not good, buy some "motorcycle-style" boots.

I voted in the "Motorcycle" section but I'm not sure mine are actual motorcycle boots. I have a pair of Red Wing Engineer Boots. They are super comfortable and will probably be the only pair of bike boots I'll need. They are also steel-toed which is a plus IMO.

I have a seat of Tourmaster boots. I've worn them a handful of times.
It was recommended to me to get a pair of Magnums Stealth Force SZ-WPi (size zipper water proof) boots. I got the 6" and love them. I will never buy another boot again.

I have these Boulet for about 20 years. I am sure there are similar in the US etc. I wear them about 80% of the time riding as they are comfortable and not too warm or cold (extra socks). I admit the other 20% I wear runnings shoes going for short trips to stores etc.

These have protected me well from exhaust pipe burns, have good ankle support and no steel toes. Slavered with mink oil they are waterproof and the leather became fairly soft so the leg part droops to a side when not in use. 20 years! They could be ordered with or without the metal ring and straps but I just cut those off.

I wear Ariat Fat Babies western boots. My friend wears a lace up with zipper motorcycle boot.
The instructor in the MSF class made the comment that if you could slip it on, it could slip off in an accident. She was all for the lace up, over the ankle boot. I have yet to have a good fitting cowboy boot come off in an accident, and I can still walk around in them.

having seen a guy lose his foot from not wearing his boots (he was fully geared, but didn't wear the boots) and that was reallly the only bad injury, because the rest of the gear worked, I am pretty sold on MC boots. The one concession I USED to make was engineer boots, darn near the same. But the armor and such of the MC boot can't be matched for foot saving. I am a gear junkie though.

I put work boots because that's what I've been wearing since I started riding 4 years ago. I rode one time in tennis shoes & didn't like it. I had a hard time shifting and it overall just didn't feel right. However yesterday I bought a pair of motorcycle boots at the swapmeet so I'll give them a try next weekend.
