Draining Coolant (VT500C)

Factory Manaul (December 1985) says the cooling capacity is 16.5 liters 17.4 US quarts.

Huh? What ?
THat is over 4 gallons. Doesnt seem right. The entire volumn of the total space of the engine and transmission and radiator would not be 4 gallons.
Hum... maybe 19 ounces....?

I took out the 8mm bolt the manaul points out (seems more like a bolt to hold on the pump cover), and I drained out maybe a quart and a half and it stopped to a dribble. Poured in a bit more water into radiator, and that came out the drain rightway.. so... seems like I have the proper drain opened.

Any comments .... ?

Doesn't seem right to to me. I'd just fill it up with a 50/50 mix until it is full, burp it, add some to the overflow tank to the cold mark, and call it a day. Who cares what the capacity is.

Was concerend that maybe not drianing the system properly.

I now see that elsewhere in the manaulk it says "Total System Capacity 1.8 quart".
THat seems more beliveable.
