Hey guys, I got a 1998 Shadow 1100 spirit that had a coolant leak down by the water pump. I've got new seals on order waiting for them to arrive but I was kinda curious on something. I'll have to fill the coolant system back up when I get the bike put back together and I noticed there is no radiator cap at the top of the radiator. Do I just keep pouring coolant into the overflow tank until the system is filled back up or is there something different I need to do? Thanks in advance!

The fill cap is under the neck cover, in front of the gas tank on the right side of the bike. You will have to unbolt the gas tank and slide it back a bit (or remove it if you like) to get the neck cover off.

a leak down by the water pump. hope its the coolant pipe seal/o-ring. mine was the water pump. 10 hours later fixed. had to remove engine to get to pump on a 1995 vt1100 spirit. not something I will ever look forward to doing again. good luck with the repair.

I'm not sure what seals you have ordered but you can't get the water pump cover off without tilting the engine and as espearly says it is a big job..if you are going to do that you may as well take the radiator off and flush it with a hosepipe and also take a good look at the thermostat housing, that can get pretty muddy in there..

Excellent point! When my crossover tube was leaking the antifreeze was running down and dripping off the bike in the area of the water pump. Definitely check that before doing anything to the water pump. You may end up saving yourself a huge headache.
