What bike, Faint small maybe but strong is bad, Does this also happen when you start it and just let it idle? Does it happen when tank is full / half full / near empty? Is the smell on your clothes or just near the bike, You may want to check fuel tank vent hose is not cracked or fallen off.

'07 vt1100 spirit. smell goes away after a while. most noticeable because the bike is in a closed garage. don't notice anything when starting or idling.

 

Check the fuel tank vent and the petcock for any fluid. If nothing and you say nothing dripping and engine is running well, I suspect its just exhaust you are smelling. You might want to check the plugs to see if one is fouling and so you have a little unburned fuel but thats all I could think of. Maybe take a paper towel to the tank and under the tank next time you park to see if there are any leaks.

Nobodies accusing you if being rich, Just the bike. I would be looking for plugged vac lines, in the smog stuff. Gas smell could be comming from the charchol cansiter. Is bike modified? What do plugs look like? How much choke do you need at start-up?
