Trip was great. Garry Russell and I met up at Russell's about 9am in Calallen on Tue am. Rode up 624 to 59 and then over to 181 at Skidmore. We then took 1604 around S/A and 281 into Marble Falls. Russell's house was about 6 west of Marble Falls, in Granite Shoals. Arrived about 4:30. Greg & Sean showed up, from New Mexico, right behind us. We settled in and went down to the Blue Bonnet Cafe for dinner, & pie, then played dominoes. Next day, Wednesday, we rode out to find Park Road 4. Wow what a ride that is. And right down in the Hoover valley we found the Hoover Valley Cafe. Can you say Goooooooood food? And a great hostess. If you get close, I highly recommend it. Harvey showed up from Arkansas on Wed PM, and we had dinner in the cabin. On Thursday it was a little drizzly in the morning, but not enough to stop us. We headed down to Willow City, to ride the Willow City Loop. Started raining just before we got there, but slowed to sprinkle once we were on the loop. This road is nothing more than a dirt road that has been blacktopped over. Very narrow, with no shoulders and really winding. Very intense in the rain. Did I mention there are about 20 cattle guards, which are like ice when wet? Not a problem, except for a couple that were at the crest of a hill, and in the middle of a curve. The divot on my bike seat has just recently completely receded. We the road back via Hwy 16 to Llano, and Park Rd 4 to granite Shoals. had lunch at the Hoover Valley Cafe again.
Friday we rode over to Austin, so Harv could get a rear tire put on his Harley, and of course get some other problems fixed.
Road back to Granite Shoals on 1431, at dusk. Another intense ride. Sat morning we road over to Fredericksburg Via Park road 4, Llano and Hwy 16. We planned to ride the loop again, but by the time got there it was raining pretty good, so we just went on the Fredericksburg. We spent most of afternoon at the Nimitz Museum. Really great museum. They have a cool reenactment a Pacific Island WWII battle. And the only surviving PT Boat. Rode back to the cabin in the dark and in the rain via 290 & 281. What a ride, with some thick fog to boot. We all cleaned cabin and headed home on Sunday morning. I put on a total of 1100 miles, on a modified stock seat. Cant wait to do it again, but I'm getting a Mustang seat first!
Some pics are posted here. I did not take a lot of pics, and could not get my flash to work, so they are not all that great, but some are pretty good.
