I do a rudimentary way. I use the tip of an ice pick or a straight small pick from Harbor Freight. I just dig it down the edge of the cap as far as I can slip the pick in and the wedge it out. I have gotten a little better at it now. It was a real pain at first. Just use light pressure and be careful. You don't want that to slip and hit you or anything else.

 

I know this is super rudimentry, but I'm stumped (already broke a dental pic and scratched the s#it out of one cap) - anybody know an easy way to remove these #!*?%$#! plastic caps so I can adjust the bars?

Utility knife works for me...
Use it to go all the way around the cap.
If the cap doesn't come loose, switch to a putty knife which is thicker and with some twisting will lift the cap higher.

 

Utility knife for me also. A little practice and it gets real easy.

Step by step.

1) Buy replacements
2) Run a drywall screw straight down the center.

If yours don't come out with a simple putty knife wedged under the cap, they might be glued in.

 

I throw them away once they're out, just one more place to trap moisture...

That's an excellent thought, Old Guy... think I might try that too, I mean they're just chromed plastic... (hmmmm... not that that's not true about a lot of my Sabre, though... eh? )

Dental floss. Work the floss under the cap and pull up. No marring and customers won't yell at me. Just be ready to catch the little buggers because too hard of a pull sends them flying.

 

A small flat blade screwdriver with the pocket clip is my plug extractor.
