Valve adjustment ?

I am looking at a used 2007 shadow spirit 750 c2 (shaft drive). It has about 3800 miles and the owner has had all the prescribed maintenance done except at about 4000 miles I believe Honda recommends a valve adjustment or at least a check. Is this really necessary on a bike that new, and if so, can anyone give me an indication of what I can expect to pay for this procedure? Thanks, and I appreciate your help.

Mine was $235, but that included an oil change and final drive fluid change. Outrageous I know, but I didn't want to do the valves myself since I've never done that before and while it was there I had them change the fluids.

Also, there was a recall on the fuel valve. Make sure that has been done.

In my opinion, the 600 mile adjustment is more important than any of the following ones. My theory is that any large clearance changes will happen during the inital break in of the engine. So if the first adjustment was done then you're probably OK to wait a while. That being said, I have around 7000 miles and will probably check my valves for the first time this Spring.

Much discussion on this subject, we have had.

I waited until 8K to check mine the first time. They were just out of spec but just barely. Not a hard thing to do yourself if you have the service book and a few tools.
