VT750DC vs VT750C2

My understanding is that the 2002-2007 VT750DC has carburetors and chain drive, while the 2007-? VT750C2 has fuel injection and shaft drive. Are there other significant differences? Is there any reason (besides age) why one model might be preferable over the other?

I'm shopping for a Shadow Spirit 750, and there's lots of nice VT750DC's available in my price range. However, I'm wondering if there's any reason why I should only be considering the newer VT750C2. I assume that the shaft and FI would mean less maintenance, but I'm not too worried about regular maintenance. Are there power differences? Comfort differences? Anything that makes one a better riding bike for any reason?

Thanks for any advice.

I'd go with the FI any day of the week. Shaft drive is less work to keep on the road. However, many like to re-gear the drive ratio. Installing a larger rear gear, etc. Another consideration is that there are many low-mileage chain drives for sale for less.

I've seen this mentioned many times. I'll have to look into this.

This is exactly why I'm looking at the older bikes. There's lots of chain drive ones for very reasonable prices.

I have an 2001 Spirit 750 (VT750DC) that I bought new in 01 and Iv never had any problems with it. I also went to a 38 tooth rear sprocket to lower the revs and absolutely love it. :)

I have an '07 750DC that I bought new and I am very pleased with it. I also did the 38 tooth sprocket and it made all the difference. I think the DC has a more "old school" look to it which is why I chose it over the C2 model. I did swap out the handlebars though, the drag style handlebars on the DC just didn't work for me, I like the C2 handlebars better. Another major difference is the front tire. The DC has a "fat" front tire whereas the C2 has a skinny one. I don't know if there's much difference in handling but I'm sure there's some. All in all you can't go wrong either way you go.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm preparing to purchase a VT750DC this weekend, and based on all the recommendations to switch to a 38 tooth sprocket I'll definitely be looking into it.

I have 02 vt 750 dc, switched to 38 tooth as soon as I could. Dont think I'll ever go back to higher tooth count, but like the option. I have been looking off and on for a 37 tooth but not many places to get one. Found a couple shops through internet searches but far away not sure if I want buy without seeing. Anyways I perfer my chain to shaft. I have an yamaha 81 xs 1100 special that is shaft which is easy maint, but would rather be able to change the gearing.
