Will all the battery chargers/tenders out there it gets confusing. I've read where cheaper trickle chargers are actually bad for the battery. So......I wanted to bend the ear of you fine, experienced folk here 8) and see what device you recommend. Don't want to spend a fortune but also don't want something that is more harmful than good. Thanks in advance.

It’s not so confusing; just make sure you get a fully automatic charger.
The only thing that might be confusing is that not all chargers are Battery Tenders. Battery Tender is a registered trademark of Deltran Corporation.

For cars and tractors, I use Schumacher automatic chargers. One tractor has four computers drawing on the two 1,000 CCA batteries and the 1.5 amp charger keeps them fully charged all winter.

For bikes, my favorite is the Âľ amp Battery Tender Jr.

It’s large enough to keep a car battery up also.

Look on this site about midway down at the two chargers: http://pashnit.com/product/tools.html. Why would the pro version say, "Constantly monitors the battery without the damaging effects of trickle chargers"?

At the local Batteries Plus store, they recommanded this one for the motorcycle batteries.

Trickle chargers do just that, they trickle a constant voltage where as a battery maintainer like Battery Tender senses total battery voltage and adjusts it's voltage to maintain the battery to a constant voltage. A Battery Tender is not a battery charger but a maintainer, before it can charge a battery there has to be 11.2 or more voltage present otherwise it won't charge.

So the Battery Tender Junior is just as safe as the Battery Tender Pro?

I have a Battery Tender and CTec 3300. I use the CTek on my VLX and the Battery Tender on my 92 Ranger that never gets driven.

The Ranger sat for nearly two years without being started. I put the Ctec on it and about 24 hours later the battery was fully charged and holding.

There is some sort of magic that goes on with the way the CTec pulses the battery somehow revives a sulphated battery. Whatever it is it worked for me.

+1 on the Shumaker tender. Bought one @ O'Reilly Auto Parts. Best $35 I ever spent. Comes with a quick connect that you can plug in to a plug that stays connected to the battery. Worked perfect on my 750 Spirit, cause the battery is under the seat!!!
