Would appreciate some advice recommendations. I have a 2009 shadow spirit c2/750. Just in the last couple of days when I put the kickstand down the bike does not shut off. The wires to the kickstand seem okay and connected. The kickstand does seem much easier to put down than normal. Very easy no hard spot about 1/2 way down as there always has been.

Not the end of the world, no other problems but it is a nice convenience I've gotten used to.

Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks in advance !

Maybe a silly question but are you putting the side stand down with the bike in gear? If its in neutral its supposed to stay running. Just asking

RIDE ON !

Maybe another silly question: you DO realize that is a safety feature;

NOT designed as a daily-use On-Off switch, right?

I was wondering the same thing. Does it wear out faster if you use it to stop the engine. Circuit current draw arcing at the contacts to stop the ignition system???
Maybe not. I think it is just a ground signal for the CDI. I don't have one on my old 1983 so I am just pondering a possibility.

I would have to give this question a NO, it does not wear out faster is you use it to stop the engine. I've been using that on my '03 Spirit 750 since I bought it to shut off the bike, and rode mine daily for the past 3 years, or more. With the OP riding a newer bike, this shouldn't have happened so quickly.

However, with the kickstand moving more "smoothly" and "easily", it makes me wonder if the bolt that holds the switch in place, so that the arm on the kickstand will push against it, has loosened, causing it to "turn" and not engage the switch?

This is one of the things I like about my Vic...they do not have this on them. The kickstands are built to "pop up" if you take off with them down, so no need for the "kill" feature.

I often use mine to kill the engine. I park on a slight grade at work, so I leave the bike in gear and it's easier when one hand is on the brake and the other in the clutch to just put the stand down.

You might diagnose the switch to see IF it is operating...
John handed me his key after we had discussed some issues he`s been having, he wanted me to ride it and diagnose a wobble, a clunk and possible traction issues...
I Cranked the bike raised the stand, put in first, it shut off!!!
I was puzzled needless to say...
He looked back and said "yeah, the stand isn`t up all the way" once he saw my expression on my face...

Switches get "dirty," contacts get worn and they stop working because the contacts are not opening/closing correctly...

What`s my point?
Diagnose the switch...
It MAY just need cleaning and lubrication...

Mine quit too, and I cant afford a new being as they're a trivial item to begin with if your not a moron.
Tons of how to's for bypassing that switch on this forum, I think I might have even made one.

Long and short take the hot and the ground, wire them together tape it all off, and zip it to the frame rail for a 15 minute bypass. :nerd:

Not my fault the key is on the wrong dodgamn side! lol
What's wrong with the kill toggle?
Honda put good thought into putting that up there by the throttle for me, who am I to not use it? 0:)

Get in the habit of turning the engine off with the kill switch, it can save your life someday. If you shut the bike down this way, all the lights stay on until you turn the key off, a safety feature and you are not taking hands of the handlebars to try and turn key etc.

Kick stand switch and clutch switch are self explanatory safety features.

Put the trans, hold the brake, turn the key off, If needed put trans back in gear.

X3r0 when you said a hidden toggle switch reminded me of my first ride, old used 1951 Cushman scooter. There was no such thing as an ignition switch so I put a switch inside the body and used that as a kill/ignition switch. Oh the good old days with 1 cylinder, 5 horsepower and 35 MPH top speed. That was fun.

I had wired in a toggle switch in my 2004 grand prix, just under the dash . You had to flip this switch then the key sense chip would work. Otherwise it would start and you could put it in drive or rev, but then it would die... My roommates had a habit of "stealing" my car and not telling me.. this stopped that.

Perhaps we can all agree to just put the front tire against a brick wall or utility pole and let out the clutch, to kill the motor.

Just don't forget to turn off yer KEY!
