Loose throttle grip help.

I replaced the grips on my bike last summer. I used hair spray as the glue to hold them in place. I have used it many times over the years. The left side has been perfect. The throttle has come loose three times now. 1st time I used hair spray again, 2nd I used a small tube of grip glue I bought at a dealer. Well, it is loose again. And yes I cleaned it off of any old glue each time. Any thoughts or wisdom? Thanks!

LOL, no but I used my fair share of 'epoxy' as a teen with a spike haircut. One brand I used had 4 different polymers in it lol.

Fixed a loose set, years ago, with one slightly overlapped wrap of electrical tape.

Maybe worth a try, if they are really loosey-goosey, like mine were!

^^ ..was gonna say the same.. If they are breaking free that easy they are likely pulling away from the surface of the tube.. Try wrapping the tube with a good 3M electrical tape.. Might work..

If your throttle sticks after wrapping and sliding on the grip.. Too much tape ;)

Good idea, big poppa pump!
Agree: that's some great stuff.

But I'm thinking  : if he uses Gorilla Glue (or JBWeld!) and someday wants to change grips, he will need to start by buying more handlebars PLUS grips! because THAT's what's known as 'a PERMANENT fix!'

To Toolferone: That 3M super 77+ is the best electrical tape made, IMO.
Does the inside of the roll still have the little American Flag, and the words: 'Made In USA'?

Completely check your install....might have missed something that is contributing to this?
Why not replace the throttle tube? A new one might hold the glue better. And use some spray adhesive instead of hair spray. Hair spray is meant for hair and it is not waterproof.

Using Gorilla Glue on the throttle side might be an option. But you would definitely need a new throttle tube if that fix failed. Other than that, your grip might be too big for the throttle tube, specially if you sanded the old glue off the last time.

Good luck with the repair. keep us posted.

You mention that you cleaned the old adhesive off...
Did you "scuff the surface" with an abrasive?
"This MAY be the ticket" You`re needing for the ride

I would basically start over installing the Grip.

Remove Grip
Clean Throttle tube and if Grip is contaminated with Hairspray etc, clean it too.
Final clean with (strong 72%+) Rubbing alcohol
Use Motorcycle Grip Glue to cement it back on

I can appreciate home remedies as much as the next guy, but you have tried the Hair Spray and it did not work in your application.
I would avoid "Electrical Tape" or the like because with the heat in Arizona
that tape adhesive turns into a grease like substance when hot.

IOW, just install it like it should have been installed in the first place.
