I need help,

I have lost the keys to my bike. How do I find the keycode?

Issue's ---

1. I do not know the original dealer of the bike.
2. I do not want to remove the ignition or replace it.

I called a local dealer and they said i would have to remove the switch and bring it to them.

surely there is a way to find the original dealer of the bike using the vin right?

The only way I know is to pull the ignition. Not that hard. I lost my key last spring and had to pull the ignition cylinder in a field. The dealer made two keys no problem. I was back in business in a couple hours.

If I can do it, anyone can do it.

Is there a diagram on how to remove the ignition?

I have a 2005 Honda Shadow VT750 Aero

Also, is it true that the helmet lock has the code stamped on it as well? If so seems like its the easiest lock to remove and take to the dealer.
My wife has the same bike. I'll have a look at it tomorrow and let you know. It can't be too hard.

I tried that. Took my bike to the local Honda dealer(Ron Ayers) and tried to get a spare key made form the vin number. Only got one when I bought the bkie. They said they could not make one form a vin number but they could take the ignition switch out and make on that way. I just let them make a duplicate from the one key I had.

I posted steps on a thread how to get to it not too long ago ...

Remove the headlight, be careful, lots of wires in there ... Remove speedo and tach if needed and look for the nuts under the switch ...

So my plan is to cut a slot in the head of the bolt and try to use a screw driver to remove it instead of drilling them out. How dumb.......why not just use star screws or something.
b/c then the screws could easily be removed. .

take a sharp pointed punch. on the outer part of tghe screw, use the punch w/ a hammer to make a deep indentation. then use them to walk/rotate the screw counter clockwise. it should be easier then trying to use a saw to make a slit in the screw.

I read today that you just remove the cover(one Phillips head screw)you will see a number ,it is the last three of "that" number ,calling in(I found this on e- bay for about 10.99 ...he makes the key and mails it to you.
